I love Statistic Brain Research Institute’s article on new year resolutions and success rate. In 2015, almost half of American (45%) made new year resolutions, and “People who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don’t explicitly make resolutions“, regardless the success rates.
Coaching tips on setting ew year resolutions
- Separate your goals into 2 categories: Personal and Professional Goals. Personal goals are for yourself, focusing on “you” as a person, and professional goals are for your career, focusing on a milestone that you can reach.
- Each goal has measurable outcome: outcome can either be measured by numbers or yes/no.
- Each goal has realistic actions: actions are steps that you can take throughout the year. Set actions to be done/achieved in a weekly or monthly format, instead of daily.
- Every 2 months, re-visit your goals and re-evaluate your actions: ask yourself on actions you have taken. If you have, are they forward-looking? If have not, what’s holding you back? Are you actions realistic?
